How weighted grades work

A weighted average gives different parts of a course different influence.

Multiply score by weight

Each score contributes in proportion to its assigned weight.

Normalize the weights

If entered weights do not sum to 100, dividing by their total still produces the normalized weighted average.

Use the syllabus rules

Some gradebooks apply drops, caps or category rules that a simple weighted average does not model.
